For this project, I had to design a booklet focusing on one of the major social issues in the United States. The first thing I thought of was gun control. I found this to be a challenging topic due to polarizing opinions on the matter. It was my duty to ignore politics and look at the issue from an unbiased standpoint. The fact of the matter is that something needs to be done about gun violence in the United States because far too many shootings are happening nowadays.
The mission of a graphic designer is to draw peoples’ attention to a particular topic in a way that makes sense for the viewer to comprehend and makes sense for the message you are trying to get across. In this case, image treatment and typography plays a huge role in trying to get the message across. The bold stencil font along with captivating red images helps to show how critical the gun control situation is. Pull quotes are also used to help further illustrate that point.
