For this project, I designed a restaurant identity for the fictional restaurant Elwood’s Roadside Bar, which is a bar that specializes in live music. I had to design the logo, menu, business card, and promotional posters for future events. I began by answering questions for the restaurant profile, which helped with the aesthetic that I wanted to achieve. Describe your restaurant and the dining experience.
The restaurant is a bar that showcases live music. Customers are free to come before the show starts to have a good meal, or they can have a snack and/or a drink while the show is going on.
How does your primary audience relate to and interact with this restaurant?
The primary audience can relate to and interact with this restaurant mainly through the music. Music brings people together and that’s what Elwood’s strives to offer their customers. Elwood’s is a place for friends to get together and have a great time.
What does the building look like?
Since it is a blues bar, it is a brick building with no windows inside. The lighting is artificial, but it is a brighter environment than the competition because Elwood’s wants their customers to enjoy life. The tables, bar, and floor is made out of a dark-colored wood.
Where do they exist?
Chicago, Illinois
How will they stand out from their competition?
Brighter lighting compared to the dim lighting of the competition. Elwood’s also has musical acts that are based in the rock, country, and folk genres. Not just blues, which is why it is important to have a brighter atmosphere.
What is the price point?
Food prices range from $7 to $16. The specials range from $15 to $20 with the exception of the Chicago-Style Hot Dog which is $7.

What kinds of services and products do they offer?
As previously mentioned, people can purchase tickets to see the concerts. You can also purchase things such as hats, shirts, and show posters. The musical acts will also bring their own merchandise to sell on the day of their performance. There is also a section of the restaurant that can be rented out for parties.
What is their function?
The function of these services is to offer something to their customers so they can remember their visit long after it is over.
Is there anything unusual about them compared to products from other companies?
Yes, restaurants generally don’t sell posters of their events. The bars usually just make a few posters to hang up on the exterior and interior of the building, but don’t make any for the public to purchase.
Company Name: Elwood’s Roadside Bar
Why did you name it what it is?
I named it Elwood’s primarily due to one of the Blues Brothers being named Elwood Blues. In the movie and in some of their skits, they perform in front of audiences that aren’t fans of blues music. For instance, in the film, they perform in a honkytonk bar. When they start their set by playing blues music, the audience grows angry and starts throwing various objects at them on stage. They quickly change course and start playing country western music, much to the crowd’s approval. The Blues Brothers also perform rock music on occasion. In fact, their style can probably be considered blues rock, which combines both genres into one. In any event, they are capable of performing a variety of genres on stage and that is what my restaurant, Elwood’s, is about. There will be blues, rock, country, and folk artists that will perform there. It’s a blues bar, but it doesn’t stick to that one genre, just like the Blues Brothers.
How does this name communicate the mission and products they represent?
Mission Statement: Elwood’s Roadside Bar strives to accommodate our guests through food and entertainment. We want people to walk away from their visit feeling a sense of both satisfaction and delight, which hopefully will make them want to come back multiple times.
